SQL Server 2005 Microsoft Visio Stencils

February 4, 2010 By Visio Guy 16 Comments

If you work with Microsoft SQL Server and are a visual type, then you might be interested in these free Microsoft Visio stencils for SQL Server 2005.

The set contains 6 stencils, 6 templates, 102 master shapes and 34 sample drawings.

You can preview the look and feel of the shapes and sample drawings in this article, then go off and download them for your own person use!

I was browsing Twitter yesterday for visio-related tweets, and a link to a bunch of stencils containing Microsoft Visio shapes for SQL Server 2005 was getting retweeted quite a lot.

I followed a convoluted path to get to the shapes. The tweets first led to SSIS Junkie: Visio stencils for SSIS , which sent me off to Josh’s Stuff: Useful Visio stencil set for SQL Server 2005. Josh had a direct link to the zip file that contains the shapes. The shapes are evidently hosted on Visio Toolbox, but I could not find a page on that site that presented the shapes. So follow that zip link to get them.

Isn’t the Internet FUN?!?

If that zip link ever stops functioning, try SSIS Junkie’s site, as he’s copied the files to his Sky Drive. If that ever fails, leave a comment below and I’ll upload a copy of the files on this site. I tend to shy away from hosting other people’s stuff without asking, but I figure links are OK 🙂

The trouble with all these free downloads is that you have to…well…download them to see what’s inside.  I figure that at least a few of you out there are like me, and like to browse a bit before committing. So I’ve put together some preview images of everything that’s inside the 5MB download. Hope you enjoy the visuals!

You can view the shapes sets immediately below, or jump to the sample drawings.

    Hi Chris…
We developed those stencils here at Visimation for Microsoft and the direct link to the download page on VisioToolbox is http://visiotoolbox.com/downloads/Tools/Visio_Stencils_-_For_All_Your_Diagramming_Need_562.aspx

    Visio Master,

I am doing a radiant floor heat looping diagram in Visio, is there any way to measure each loop as i am creating it?

It is very important to have equal (or close to it) loops for in-floor heating applications.

    Thanks,

A reference to your site must be made available in Visio itself.
Thank you for the amazing site and content

As of 3/19/12, the file was no longer available on SSIS Junkie’s SkyDrive site. Can you post it directly?

    Thanks.

Thanks for the heads-up, Joshua. I’ve added it to my Tasks, no idea when I’ll get to it, though.

    Hello,
would you be so kind to help me locate the SQL Server visio stencils?

So the shapes are up on http://sqlblog.com/blogs/jamie_thomson/archive/2010/02/03/visio-stencils-for-ssis.aspx

I’ve also started building up my own set.

    http://www.bidn.com/blogs/MarkGStacey/bidn-blog/2675/visio-shapes-for-sql-2012-ssas-olap-tabular-master-data-services-and-data-quality-services-servers

It’s continually a work in progress, but I currently have:
    Analysis Services (MultiDimensional)
    Analysis Services (Tabular)
    Data Quality Services
    Master Data Services

These are icons I completely made up myself so *far* from official, but open for anyone to use if you need them. I’ll probably add SSIS and SSRS at some point as well. Feel free to leave a comment on my blog if there are ones you want
