Visio & AutoCAD

October 26, 2006 By Visio Guy 11 Comments

Read Full ArticleThere are a lot of Visio users out there, and not all of them use Visio in conjuction with AutoCAD. But for those who do; Boy! Do they use AutoCAD!! And when there’s a problem using them in conjunction with each other; Boy! Is there a problem!!

This page will try to bring together as many resources regarding Visio and AutoCAD issues as is humanly possible. I’ll keep updating it as new information comes in, so check back from time to time!

On a positive note, it looks like the AutoCAD compatibility in Visio 2007 is vastly improved! One of the experts on the subject has informed me that beta 2 of Visio 12 has solved many of the issues from previous versions of Visio.

Spiral Shape Maker

October 19, 2006 By Visio Guy 28 Comments

Ever need a spiral shape? I just found one buried on my hard-drive — something I whipped up years ago, and modified last year. You can download it here.

The download consists of one Visio drawing file (.vsd). This file contains VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) macro-code that generates the spirals. You’ll need to allow this code to run in order to create spirals.

Map of North America

September 22, 2006 By Visio Guy 19 Comments

A few weeks ago, I uploaded the map of Europe Visio diagram. This file provided convenient access to all the shapes of Europe, all neatly arranged relative to one another, living in harmony with peace and unity. Alle Menschen werden Brüder… Today we have the same pain-free (ie: no Shape Search) treatment for North America.

AND, we finally have a short post from the VisioGuy!

Map of Europe

September 3, 2006 By Visio Guy 24 Comments

Every once in a while, folks ask about map shapes in Visio. Does Visio have countries and continents? Yes? Well, where on earth (pun intended) are they?

Visio has had map shapes for a long time, but it has become increasingly difficult to find them. First, some of the shapes got moved into the shape database. That means they are no longer in a stencil, but must be found by running a Shape Search. And we all know that search can be less than perfect at times.
