Arno Nel has published links to a really cool set of Visio drawings that relate to Microsoft SharePoint on his blog: Arno Nel 2.0 – The Information Worker. The diagrams illustrate models, scenarios, and flowcharts for planning, designing and deploying SharePoint installations.

Polygon Maker
Another question popped up on the newsgroup forums today asking about making polygon shapes in Visio. This triggered a neuron, and I was off like a flash to perform a search of my …\Visio directory.
Sure enough, I found “PolygonMaker 2002.vsd”, which I have prettied-up for presentation to you today…
Thinkpad Network Shape
If you’re an IBM ThinkPad fanatic like me and the folks over at forum.thinkpads.com — or used to be before Lenovo removed the red stripes from the buttons — then you’ll appreciate having a real laptop shape for your diagrams.
I’ve created a fully over-drawn ThinkPad laptop Visio network shape that’s sure to bloat your file sizes, but look really cool on your 2400dpi color laser printer. It’s got all the normal features of Visio’s network shapes: a whole slew of custom properties and text that can be moved via a little, yellow control handle.
Hope you enjoy it!

Today’s post presents you with a Consumer Reports style ratings shape. The shape is what is traditionally referred to as a multi-shape. It has five states that allow you to graphically represent the quality of a particular characteristic. Consumer Reports names the states: Excellent, Good, Average, Poor, or Unacceptable. In our shape you can configure the names to your liking.
Visio Art Page
Perhaps you have noticed that this web site is mainly devoted to custom Visio shapes and information about developing Visio solutions. But if you’ve seen the Snowflake Generator or the CD Jewel Case Template, you know that we’re not just about work and no play.
I’ve created a new Visio Art Page. You can find a link to it at the top of every page on this site, as it is now a standing feature of Visio Guy. Hope you enjoy!
USB Stick Shape
So Steve popped up on MSN Messenger a few months ago and told me he needed a USB stick shape that matched the cool 3D network shapes in Visio 2003.
Of course this was annoying — what am I? The Visio Guy? But then I remembered how he manages to save me big $$$ on my ThinkPads. And since I was chatting with him on a T43p, I figured it was the least I could do 🙂
Steve has enjoyed a competitive advantage — being the only person with this shape for many months — but now his patent has run out and I’m sharing it with you!

If you use Visio for CAD-like purposes, you might need to make revisions or “AS-BUILT” modifications to your drawings from time to time. Often this is shown by drawing a squiggly cloud, or bubble, around the portion of the drawing that has been modified.
I’ve created three shapes for doing this for you to download.
Visio Snowflake Generator
Well folks, it’s snowing here at Visio Guy Headquarters in Munich! So I guess it’s time to start thinking winter after all. And that’s just what this article and download are all about: Winter! Visio and Winter! Visio and Winter and Snowflakes!
So let’s forget about BPM, Org Charts and Network Diagrams for a while, and hark back to the winters of our youth, when we’d busily be folding paper and cutting away triangular bits, in the mad pursuit to decorate our windows with paper snowflakes.
I’ve coddled together a little tutorial that shows you how to use Visio’s Fragment, Union, Combine and Trim functions to create snowflakes — “ just like you did back in kindergarten! And the download contains some Visual Basic for Applications code to help you “do the unfolding” automatically!
CD Jewel Case Template
If you just went out and bought yourself a color laser printer, like I did, then you might be itching to create a bunch of CD Jewel Cases in living color!
And since you’re already a Visio pro, there’s no sense in installing and learning another application, because you can download a Visio CD Jewel Case Template right here!
