Audio Visual Components Shapes
Through the VGOBN (Visio Good Ol’ Boys Network) I recently received a finely-crafted Audio-Visual Shapes Visio stencil, full of shapes that you can use to layout your home theater wiring projects. The stencil is comprised of various terminal connectors, such as RCA Audio and RCA Video terminals, as well as various shapes for the back-plate and functional groups.
Many thanks to Tom Underhill for these shapes. Tom is a very smart engineer who used to work for Visio Corporation, and now does incredible things for Microsoft. You are welcome to send Tom praise and comments at “t-under-hill@g-mail.com” but remove all three of the hyphens first.
Visio 2007 General Information #2
So Visio 2007 has been released, and…well…I’d love to say that I’ve been pounding the pavement, doing a ton of research, and have dug up the latest scoop, but the guys over at Visio Insights have written a nice post entitled: What’s so great about Visio 2007? that anyone’d be hard pressed to beat.
There’s some nice screenshots of the new datagraphics and pivot charts that are available in the new version, as well as links to Visio 2007 new-feature videos and other online resources. So go on over and have a look, and tell ’em Visio Guy sent you!
Constraining Angle with the BOUND ShapeSheet Function
Cori who writes the blog Elliptical… wrote this nice little piece on constraining a shape’s angle so that it can only be rotated in 90-degree increments. I thought I’d relay the information to you here, and explain a bit more about the BOUND ShapeSheet function.
Although you can use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+R and Ctrl+L to rotate shapes in 90-degree increments clockwise and counterclockwise, this does nothing to actually constrain the allowable values.

Visio and Xml Conference Resources
Back in January 2006, I made a presentation at the Microsoft Office Visio Conference in Home-Sweet-Home Seattle. Good company, good information, and good fun was had by all! You can download plenty of excellent content from that conference, including PowerPoint slides and recorded presentations. Get it here: Visio Conference web site.
In my presentation, Working With Visio an Xml, our friend, Dr. Xml, proudly made his PowerPoint debut and won the crowd over. The presentation summary was…
Polyline Shape Maker
Sometimes your Visio SmartShapes can be like beauty pageant contestants: they just need to look good, but don’t need a lot of intelligence. The creators of Visio realized this (after five versions) and gave us a way to streamline lots of “dumb” vector data. The ShapeSheet function: POLYLINE and the geomettry row: PolyLineTo will help you get the job done.
Polygon Maker
Another question popped up on the newsgroup forums today asking about making polygon shapes in Visio. This triggered a neuron, and I was off like a flash to perform a search of my …\Visio directory.
Sure enough, I found “PolygonMaker 2002.vsd”, which I have prettied-up for presentation to you today…
